Danny Thompson Sets New World Land Speed Record On The Bonneville Salt Flats in 2010 E85 Ford Mustang
10/19/09
Stow, OH - Danny Thompson, son of racing legend Mickey Thompson, made Bonneville racing history on October 11, 2009. Driving the E85-powered 2010 Ford Mustang from Ford Racing and Hajek Motorsports, Thompson achieved a new record speed of 255.764, and a top exit speed of 258.41 earning him the title of the C/BFALT-class world land speed record holder.
“We had a few issues because you always have a few issues when you have a brand new car,” said Danny Thompson. “But, I always love to get up here on the salt because this place makes me smile. Once you make a few adjustments and get through tech and prove the thing can run in a straight line at 175 miles an hour, it’s time to stand on the gas, as my dad would say.”
“As a farmer, it was really great to watch Danny break this record in a car powered with corn and made with soy body panels,” said Brent Hajek, Hajek Motorsports. “Now we’ve got to break this vehicle down and clean every inch of it to remove the salt, and put her back together and get her ready for next time.”
