True to its land speed racing heritage, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels is celebrating another record-setting run at Bonneville Speed Week.

Mickey Thompson Bonneville Race Tires were used on George Poteet’s Speed Demon that surpassed 470 mph to set a new AA/BFS record during SCTA Bonneville Speed Week 2020.

“All of us at Mickey Thompson would like to congratulate the Speed Demon team on its record-setting performance,” said Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing, Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels. “Our company is no stranger to the demands of land speed racing, and we’re honored to be a part of another world record run.”

Speed Demon set a record two-way average for a piston-engine, wheel-driven car at 470.015 mph during Speed Week 2020, including running 481.576 mph one-way in the last mile. It was powered by Ken Duttweiler’s 3,156-hp big-block Chevrolet engine, running on methanol boosted to 35-36 psi by two Precision Turbo 88mm turbochargers.

Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has visited the Bonneville record book in the past. The company’s LSR tires were used in 2018 by Team Vesco on the Turbinator II, the first car to be inducted into the coveted 500-mph club.

Earlier that summer, Danny Thompson also set the land speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats after a two-way average run of 448.757 mph in the Challenger II, a racecar originally built by his father, Mickey Thompson, more than 50 years ago. Thompson’s run broke the former 439-mph record held by Poteet.

It’s time to hit the trail. Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels has joined Rockstar Performance Garage to bring the Great American Crawl (GAC) series to trails all across the country.

The GAC is a series of trail rides featuring highly popular off-road destinations across the country. From mile to wild, every off-roader can find a bucket-list worthy trail on the GAC.

Cost to enter the parks can range, so participants are encouraged to join the GAC group for discounts from partner companies supporting the trail rides, meeting new friends that share the same hobbies and the safety of not wheeling alone.

Members’ rigs are everything from stock Jeeps, trucks and UTV’s to fully built off-road rigs and bouncers capable of climbing the rock ledges that adorn these parks and trails.

The GAC kicked off last weekend in Missouri at the Southern Missouri Off-Road Ranch (SMORR). Enthusiasts showing up over the two days of wheeling had traveled from across the country to wheel with popular influencers like @GRDLOC, @MISCHIEFMAKERJKU and @LITEBRITESTUDIOS.

“We are excited to get out and meet the enthusiasts on the trail,” Nic Ashby of Rockstar Performance Garage said. “It’s a great way to get out and have fun from the safety of your own vehicle and come hit a trail with us.”

“The Great American Crawl is a great opportunity for off-roaders to get out on the trail with some of the best in the business,” Ken Warner, Vice President of Marketing at Mickey Thompson Tires & Wheels, said. “Nic and his team at Rockstar Performance Garage have taken on the toughest and most diverse terrain out there, and the GAC is a tour of the best off-roading in the country.”

Upcoming events include:

● September 4-6 at Adventure Off Road Park (AOP), South Pittsburg, TN

● September 18-20 in Black Mountain, KY

● October 2-4 in Wolf Caves, Texas

● October 8-11 in Trail Hero, Utah

● November 6-8 in Moab, Utah

● November 27-29 in Hump & Bump, NV

Rockstar Performance Garage and its fleet of Ambassador Rigs are attending all the rides and capturing photos and videos of each trip at no cost to the enthusiasts attending.
